Men's cashmere pajamas and their origins
The word "pajama" first appeared in English around 1880, after the British colonized India. It's derived from a combination of two words in Hindu: "pa(y)," meaning leg, and "jama," meaning garment. In India, the term referred to loose, lightweight pants with a drawstring waist that were worn with a shirt made from the same material. The shirt often had a button placket. Our best-selling men's cashmere pajamas give this traditional style a modern twist.
Pajamas were imported to Europe, where the comfortable two-piece set gradually replaced the long nightshirts that were in style in the late-19th century.
